1890 Origins in Normandy, France. Traditionally, Bourneville men were ébénistes (cabinetmakers). Settled in New Zealand late 1890s.
1950 Using only hand tools, Victor Bourneville builds a 40ft kauri boat in his back yard.
1963 In a small factory in Parnell, Auckland, father and son Victor and Trevor Bourneville set up Bourneville Furniture Company Limited, making domestic and commercial timber furniture.
1969 With a staff of 9, the company needs larger premises. A new factory is established in Three Kings. Commercial furniture has become the mainstay of the company.
1971 Trevor and Victor set up Commercial Interiors, expanding the range of services and products. The company continues to grow.
1973 Trevor Bourneville is awarded the 1,000,000 Design Mark award for his modular desk design. The company continues to prosper.
1976 Once again, the company outgrows its current premises. A new factory in Onehunga, complete with brand new machinery, is established.
1978 The company opens its own steel plant, Furniture Developments, to manufacture steel components. It also starts a new seating division, as expansion continues.
1980 An upholstery division is added as the company takes even more control of the manufacturing process, ensuring a better quality product.
1989 Trevor Bourneville purchases land in Onehunga for a purpose-built facility – one of the most modern in New Zealand. The new site consolidates showrooms, administration and plant under one roof. The new facility is officially opened in 1990.
1992 The company goes nationwide, with deliveries and installations servicing large government accounts.
1994 After pursuing a sports career in Europe, grandson Mark Bourneville returns to New Zealand as managing director to guide the company through its next phase.
1996 New CNC machinery is purchased to help provide an even better quality, more efficient product to commercial and residential clients.
1998 Bourneville Furniture, Furniture Developments and Commercial Interiors merge to become Bourneville Furniture Group (BFG).
2000 Working with designers and architects, BFG places an emphasis on design, service and products. V2, La Vague and Carruca brands are added to the line-up.
2002 After working in the education sector for many years, BFG decides to give back to the community, becoming a major sponsor of Fight for Life and NZ Surf Lifesaving.
2007 Further expansion results in new machinery to ensure higher output and efficiencies. More installation staff and delivery vehicles are taken on to meet the ongoing demand from established and new clients.
2010 BFG now has Environment Choice accreditation on a range of products – showing our commitment to sustainable manufacturing. A proud supporter of the community, BFG put forward two furniture packages for the Kids Cure Charity Auction.
